My UCL MD9 Team: FPL Review

Gameweek 9 of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) and the Champions League (UCL) are done and dusted! It's time for a post-match analysis of my UCL MD9 team, discussing the highs, lows, and lessons learned. This review will cover team selection, captaincy choices, and overall strategy, offering insights for fellow FPL managers.

Team Selection: A Blend of Risk and Reward

My UCL MD9 team was a carefully balanced blend of high-potential players and safer picks. I opted for a 4-4-2 formation, prioritizing attacking potential while maintaining defensive solidity. Here's the breakdown:

• Goalkeeper: Alisson (Liverpool) – A reliable choice, offering clean sheet potential.
• Defenders: Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool), Antonio Rüdiger (Real Madrid), and Josko Gvardiol (RB Leipzig). A mix of attacking and defensive potential. Gvardiol proved a particularly strong selection.
• Midfielders: Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid), and Bernardo Silva (Manchester City). These three midfield maestros offered immense attacking threat and points potential.
• Forwards: Erling Haaland (Manchester City) and Kylian Mbappé (PSG). Two of the best strikers in the world, guaranteed to score goals...or so I hoped!

Captaincy Choice: The Haaland Gamble

The captaincy decision is arguably the most crucial element of FPL. For MD9, I captained Erling Haaland. While a high-risk, high-reward strategy, his goal-scoring prowess made him a tempting choice. This decision ultimately paid off handsomely as Haaland delivered a brace.

Matchday Performance: Hits and Misses

The results were a mixed bag. Some players exceeded expectations, while others underperformed.

The Stars of the Show:

• Erling Haaland (Captain): Two goals! A captain's performance, justifying the faith placed in him.
• Kevin De Bruyne: A solid contribution with a goal and an assist. A consistent performer, crucial for overall team points.
• Josko Gvardiol: A clean sheet and a solid defensive performance, exceeding expectations.

The Disappointments:

• Kylian Mbappé: A frustrating blank. He had chances but failed to convert. A reminder that even the best players can have off days.
• Trent Alexander-Arnold: While Liverpool kept a clean sheet, Trent's attacking contributions were minimal.

MD9 provided some valuable lessons for future UCL FPL selection:
